When choosing eyewear it’s important to understand three key elements that influence the size & fit of every frame. Those metrics are eye size, bridge size and temple length. To assist you in determining an ideal fit, we’ve created some guidelines to use at your disposal. Per industry standards, all frame measurements are expressed in millimeters.
Also known as the “A” measurement, the eye size is simply the measured width of one lens, from edge to edge. Generally, eye sizes range from 46mm - 62mm. Some shapes - for example - round lens shapes, are inherently produced in smaller eye sizes.
Also known as the “DBL”, the bridge measurement represents the amount of distance between the lenses. Bridge sizes typically fall in the range of 14mm - 24mm. While bridge size is a critical metric in determining your fit, it’s also important to understand that naturally, some shapes call for a wider or a more narrow bridge. For example, fundamentally, round shapes call for a wider bridge, while aviators call for a more narrow bridge fit.
Temple length measures the amount of distance from the center of the hinge screw to the tip of the temple. This metric is essential to ensuring your eyewear sits firmly and comfortably behind your ears. For adults, standard temple lengths will fall in the range of 135mm - 150mm.
